Survivors include, children, Charles E. (wife, Sally) Palmer of New Madrid, Ralph (wife, Marsha) Palmer of New Madrid, David (wife, Sheri) Palmer of St. James, Missouri and Laura (husband, Scott) Griffin of New Madrid, nine grandchildren, Suzanne (Daniel) Blackford, Matt (Jessica) Palmer, Paige (Jake) Ki.ball, Emilee (Tommy) Bakersmith, Jessye Griffin, Ben, Anna and Joseph Palmer and Aaron (Katelynn) Griffin, five great-grandchildren with one more on the way, sister-in-law, Margaret Palmer Shirley and one special cousin Jenny Holt of Lynchburg, Virginia.
Our dad, Charles Edward "Chuck" Palmer, Sr. ran into the arms of Jesus at 5:43 p.m. on May 23, 2023. We know he ran because he lived life at full speed. Dad, or Papa, as he was affectionately known to his grandkids and many others, "lived until he died". He never let his health or his age slow him down.
Papa loved to hunt with his sons, grandsons, brother, nephews, and friends and was nearly always the one who bagged the biggest buck or shot the biggest turkey.
He was an avid golfer and was always determined to "shoot his age" and did so many times. Papa was actually determined to be successful at whatever he set his hand to, be it hunting, golfing, carpentry, or anything, really. He always had a knack for picking up any challenge and being successful.
Dad grew up in Tiptonville, TN, and loved to reminisce about his early days there, where he was a star on both the gridiron and the baseball field. We will miss those stories...
Dad was proud of his career with the Bank of New Madrid and enjoyed his weekly board meetings where he could visit with everyone and check out the break room to see if there were any treats to be had. He had a very big sweet tooth and loved his Little Debbie snack cakes and a cold Mountain Dew.
Dad was most proud of his family and the fact that all were strong Christians and were raising Christian families. We will forever be indebted to him for the lessons he taught us through the life that he lived.
Our Davis Street church of Christ will feel his absence dearly. He was a strong voice, both in standing for the truth and in his singing praises to the Lord. How beautiful his voice must sound now singing along with the saints in heaven. Dad was a beacon of positivity and did not want a funeral with, as he used to say, "a bunch of old sad songs, making everybody cry". So in that spirit, we will celebrate his life today and enjoy one another's company, just as he would want us to.
We will miss you, Dad, but we will see you on the other side.
