Obituary

Cornelius "Kirby" Beaher, 89, died Aug. 18, 2014, in New Madrid. Born Sept. 27, 1924, in New Madrid, to the late John Henry and Elizabeth Michalke Beaher, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944-1946 in Burma, India. He retired from Noranda Aluminum, was a charter member of American Legion Post 595 in New Madrid and a member of Eagles Aerie No. 4207 in New Madrid. On Feb. 20, 1943, in New Madrid, he married Genevieve "Jay" Chanley, who preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 1985. He was also preceded in death by infant twins, Mark and Mary; two brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include: four daughters, Barbara Jacobs, Jerrie Ruth Patterson and Beth Hartman of New Madrid and Patty Lacey of Tiptonville, Tenn.; two sons, Bill Beaher of Las Cruces, N.M., and David Beaher of Lilbourn; two sisters, Ada Odom of New Madrid and Anna Marie Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one grandchild, Landon, due in December; and a special friend, Gladys Wescoat of LaForge. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid.
