Florence McConnell Davis, 93, of New Madrid, died on March 8, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Born Oct. 31, 1921, in Risco, she was the one of seven children of James E. and Inez McConnell, four of whom preceded her in death: James E. (Jim) McConnell, Warren McConnell, Walter McConnell and Helen McConnell. She graduated from Risco High School and later moved to New Madrid, where she met her husband of 50 years, John Corbett Davis, who preceded her in death. They had two children, Johnny Davis of New Madrid, who also preceded her in death; and Joe Davis of Sylva, N.C. She and her husband owned and operated Davis Pharmacy in New Madrid for many years and she worked at Davis Pharmacy until she was 92 years of age. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in New Madrid, the New Madrid Country Club and was an avid bridge player and reader. Survivors are: one son and two daughters-in-law, Joe and Nancy Davis of Sylva and Mary Kay Davis of New Madrid; five grandchildren, Jana (Andy) Lamanna of Memphis, Tenn., Jaime (Will) Motter of New Madrid, Colleen Davis of Greenville, N.C., Martin Davis of Lexington, Ky., Joseph Davis of Sylva; three great-grandchildren, John Corbett Lamanna of Memphis, Mary Ellis Motter of New Madrid and Davis Edward Motter of New Madrid,; siblings, Forest Grimes of Poplar Bluff and Bob (Florene) McConnell of Woodlands, Texas; and many other special nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in New Madrid and a memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. The Rev. Eric Mattson will officiate. Richards Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
