Helen Louise Masterson, 90, died May 19, 2014, in Pasadena. Born Jan. 17, 1924, in Palacios, to the late Richard and Minnie Loff Holman, she was a member of the Presbyterian Church in New Madrid. She was married to Alvin H. Smith, who preceded her in death. On Dec. 31, 1979, she married Boyd Franklin Masterson, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 2011. Survivors include: two sons, Arvid H. Smith and Alvin Lee Smith of Texas; two daughters, Barbara J. Ross of Normangee and Brenda D. Sliter of Alvin; two sisters, Velma Laverne Solomon and Jewel Maxine Packer; and five stepchildren, Frank Masterson of New Madrid, Mo., Charles Masterson of Wentzville, Mo., David Masterson of Abilene, Matt Masterson of St. Charles, Mo., and Karen Swift of Wappapello, Mo. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday with G.L. Keene officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid.
