Helen Tollison, 91, of New Madrid, Missouri, passed away Saturday January 26, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center following an illness. She lived in New Madrid her entire life, touching the lives of many in the area.
Helen was born January 3, 1922 in rural New Madrid County to the late Roy and Eunice Rhodes. She was married on December 24, 1939 in La Forge, Missouri to William T Tollison. She was a longtime member of Kewanee Missionary Baptist church, and worked several years in New Madrid at the Head Start and ABC Play Skool.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Tollison, parents Roy and Eunice Rhodes, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Helen is survived by her brother Scrogg Rhodes, and three sisters Louise Poyner, Violet Porter, and Betty Corgan; her two sons and their wives, Larry and Linda Tollison of New Madrid; Jimmy and Becky Tollison of Alma, AR; and her three daughters and their husbands, Sondra and Kenneth Faulkner of New Madrid, Linda and Duaine Collier of Kewanee, Missouri, Paula and Bobby Maupin of Nashville, Tenn., as well as Pat and Glenn Hessling of Sikeston Missouri. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
The visitation will be held at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid on Monday January 28, 2013 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. directly followed by the funeral service beginning at 1p.m. The service will be officiated by Bro. Steve Francis and Bro. Dan Wisely. The grandsons will be serving as pall bearers.
Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
