Laura Louise Nelson, 80, died Sept. 15, 2014, at her home in New Madrid. Born Jan. 21, 1934, to the late Louis and Rosie Lee Bartlett, she was a member of the Beebe Memorial Church in New Madrid. On June 12, 1955, in Conran she married Oscar Nelson Jr., who preceded her in death. Survivors include: four sons, Ivory Nelson of Chicago, Oscar Nelson III of Columbia, Fredrich Nelson of St. Louis and Terry Nelson of New Madrid; four daughters, Jeanette Hilliard of St. Louis, Willetta Nelson and Gwendella Nelson of New Madrid and Darlen Holmes of South Carolina; one sister, Glodine Thomas of Jefferson City; and 21 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two children and three brothers. Visitation is scheduled for 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Saturday  at the Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery.
