Opal M. Nelson, 84, died March 25, 2014, at her daughter's home where she lived. Born April 3, 1929, in Conran, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Ida Othella Arnold Smith. She married Donald Nelson who preceded her in death Oct. 25, 1991. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Marion Smith and Roy Lee "Johnny" Smith, one sister, Alice Smith, and one grandson, Harold Dillard White Jr. Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Trudy Nelson of Sikeston; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Dillard White of LaForge; and six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. today at the Richards Funeral Home in  New Madrid where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will follow in the Mounds Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Mike Nelson Sr., Mike Nelson Jr., Bryan Nelson, J.B. Hedge, Danny Hoskins and Garret Byrd.
