Obituary

Thomas “Tommy” Allen Chism Sr., age 66, of New Madrid, Missouri, passed away on September 20, 2026, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri.

Tommy was born on March 8, 1960, in Sikeston, Missouri, to the late C.J. Chism and Valarie Byrd Chism.

On March 10, 1993, in New Madrid, Missouri, Tommy married Purity Hopkins Chism, who survives of the home.

He is also survived by his three sons and daughter-in-law, Thomas “Tommy” Allen Chism Jr. of New Madrid, Missouri, Timmy Chism of New Madrid, Missouri, and C.J. and Jessi Chism of Newbern, Tennessee; four brothers, Bill Chism of Michigan, Danny Brown of Arkansas, Michael Brown of New Madrid, Missouri, and Donald “Tuffy” Brown of New Madrid, Missouri; two sisters, Joanie Poindexter of New Madrid, Missouri, and Susie Lowrey of New Madrid, Missouri; and three grandchildren, Thomas Allen Chism III of New Madrid, Missouri, and Atlas and Rhyatt Chism of Newbern, Tennessee.

In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by five brothers, Sam Brown, George Brown, Jerry Brown, Ricky Chism, and Billy Bob Brown.

Tommy devoted much of his life to serving his community and the organizations that were important to him.

At the time of his passing, he was President-Elect of the Missouri State Eagles. He was also a Past President and longtime member of New Madrid Aerie #4206, a Booster Member of American Legion Post #595, and a member of the Matthews Jaycees.

For 20 years, Tommy served the citizens of New Madrid as an Alderman for the City of New Madrid and served as Mayor Pro Tem. He also served his community as an auxiliary police officer and volunteer firefighter with the City of New Madrid.

Tommy was a Past Worshipful Master of New Madrid Masonic Lodge #108 and a 32nd Degree Mason.

He was also a Moo Sul Kwan instructor for many years.

His working career included 35 years at Noranda Aluminum. He later worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections, where he retired.

Even in death, Tommy continued his legacy of helping others through the gift of organ donation. His decision to be an organ donor reflects a final act of generosity and service to others.

Tommy will be remembered for his many years of service to his community, his dedication to the organizations he loved, and, above all, the love he had for his family and friends.
